Content for Scrapped was extracted from Brooke’s family memorabilia—a photograph* that she has revisited once again. It was the inspiration for four earlier artist books**.
For Scrapped she wrote the poem, In the Wave of the Father,*** and used it to shape the work.
*Photograph of the Enterprise, the aircraft carrier on which her grandfather was one of its captains during WWII. During his term, a Kami Kazi pilot bombed the carrier. The photo documents a hole in its deck from the explosion with the crew standing by.
**Tiers Asunder (2017), Withdrawn (2013), AndBut_1 (2013), Pas(t)ime (2010).
